So Christmas is one month away (*screams internally*) and you know what that means…Christmas themed books!
Now, I’m not exactly a stickler for holiday-themed books (let’s be honest, how many have I reviewed on time lel), but it’s nice to know that there are books out there to get you into the spirit — be it Christmas, Halloween, the New Year or even just Summer.
What I do like about holiday themed books is the way it gets you excited for the holiday season ahead, despite how different it is down here in Australia. Christmas for example, falls in Summer for us. There’s no snow, no reindeers, and definitely no cute mittens to be seen on the streets. More likely than not, you’ll see us in just a shirt, shorts and thongs (*ahem* ‘flip flops’) when Christmas rolls around each year.
Books themed around Christmas tends to be a form of escapism, where I can experience the northern hemisphere’s version of the holiday season while dying in 40 degree heat at the beach.
Halloween is the same. Some of you many not know, but Halloween is not a huge thing in Australia. No one really goes trick-or-treating, let alone decorates their house for it (a shame really, think of all the things you can do!). So to get myself into the spirit, I sometimes like to read horror themed books, or watch some horror movies. I didn’t get a chance to this year (boo), but it’s a nice break from just reading YA.
So I’m curious…are YOU a holiday-themed reader? What’s your favourite holiday, and can you recommend me some books for Christmas?!
